SVGA and VGA Cables

Monitor cables are like a foreign language to some people, and for good reason. There are so many different types of cables to choose from and a variety of different reasons to use them all. The most complicated issue that most people face is choosing between two types of cables for their needs. SVGA and VGA cables are a hot topic of discussion because it's hard to tell the difference between the two when they are so similar. Ultimately, VGA is the cable that is used by a traditional desktop computer to hook up the monitor. It supports basic resolutions and carries analog signals.

SVGA, on the other hand, is an enhanced VGA cable that carries higher resolution and has better features. These cables can be easily identified by the plug with pins connectors that they have. The plugs typically have a four-sided shape that is shorter on one side than the other. There are also three rows of pins within the plug area that plug into the female part of the monitor and tower, respectively. If cables are not labeled, you can't tell the difference between SVGA and VGA just by looking at them. They are identical on the outside. However, if you are hooking up an SVGA cable, you will have higher resolution options than you have with a VGA cable.

SVGA and VGA cables are the most common connection used for hooking up a monitor. These cables are designed to be strong and durable, making it easier for them to emit good signals because the cables are well-protected from the elements and any risks that could occur. These cables are generally fat (about the width of a cable cord or slightly larger), with the rectangular plugs on the end. Another difference between the two is that VGA supports 16 colors while SVGA supports 16 million colors. Surprisingly, VGA is actually obsolete now, but many people still have old monitors that have this resolution.

When you are looking for the right SVGA and VGA cables, you have to know what you need. If your graphics card and monitor are older, you will need a traditional VGA cable, which may be difficult to find. If, however, you have a computer that is less than 6-8 years old, SVGA should be a standard option for your cable needs, no matter what brand or model the computer is. These are important things to keep in mind to help you get the most from your cable purchase.
